Shopping tips: The sale of souvenirs made from game skins, reptile skins and furs is prohibited. It is better to see the animals in their natural environment and take the experience home with you as a souvenir. Of course, it is possible to purchase other beautiful souvenirs such as handmade carvings or jewelry.

Tip: Approximately 10 Kenyan Shillings is reasonable. Higher tips are at the discretion of the guest. If you were exceptionally satisfied with the service, you are welcome to tip more. Your guides will also be happy to receive a small tip at the end of the trip, which is customary in Kenya. The amount of the tip is based on a voluntary basis. This also applies to your stay in the lodges. Here you will often find a tip box at reception. The staff are always happy if you were satisfied with the service and honor this.

Climate & best time to travel: The main travel times for Kenya are the months of December and January, which are also the hottest months. Nevertheless, all other months are suitable for a trip to Kenya. Only during the rainy season, which usually occurs between the months of March and May and from November to early December, may there be travel restrictions. At times, some regions are impassable by vehicle. On the coast, the rain is generally heavy, short showers. Average water temperatures at the coast never fall below 25°C all year round. Nairobi is always relatively cool.

Entry requirements for Kenya

Which documents must be carried when entering the country?
In general, you need a visa to enter Kenya. Please note that the visa for Kenya can no longer be applied for on arrival. Travelers must apply for the visa via the website of the Kenyan Home Affairs Authority www.ecitizen.go.ke after registering as a visitor and pay by credit card. The fee for single-entry visas is 50 US dollars, with an additional processing fee of 1 US dollar.

The processing time normally takes around seven days and the visa is issued in electronic form and must be presented as a color printout together with a passport that is valid for at least six months after the end of the trip when entering Kenya.

As it can take up to seven days for the e-visa to be approved and issued, it is advisable to apply for your e-visa early. However, it must be applied for at least 3 months in advance and is valid for 90 days after issue, i.e. you must enter Kenya within this period. From the date of entry, it allows a maximum stay of 3 months, which can be easily extended in Kenya if necessary.

If you also visit the neighboring countries in East Africa during your trip, there is the possibility of obtaining a joint visa for these countries, which is then valid for 90 days. The cost for this is 100 US dollars.

Proof of a yellow fever vaccination is required if you are traveling from a country that is designated as a yellow fever area. You may also be required to provide proof of a valid return flight ticket upon entry, which proves that you will be leaving the country again.

Please also note that when traveling with children, the entry in the parental passport is not sufficient. A machine-readable child ID card with a passport photo must be carried.
